Work-life balance policies such as paid parental leave and flexible work arrangements are often designed with white, middle-class women in mind.

For Black women, who may also face racial biases in how caregiving is viewed, these policies need to be more inclusive and supportive.

Action:

  • Provide flexible work arrangements that do not penalize Black women for taking time off for caregiving responsibilities.

  • Ensure that career breaks do not prevent Black women from receiving raises or promotions.
