Reflecting Core Values & Conducting a Thorough Policy Review

Review and list how current promotion criteria reflect core organizational values, particularly regarding fairness and trust.

  • Identify parts of the eligibility requirements that may disadvantage certain groups.

  • Examine the promotion decision-making process for transparency and potential biases like confirmation bias, groupthink, affinity bias, halo effect, recency effect, gender bias, age bias, and status quo bias.

Alignment with Strategic Goals & Gathering Data on Promotion Outcomes

  • Evaluate how promotion criteria support long-term organizational goals.

  • Collect and analyze demographic and promotion data over the past few years to identify patterns indicating biases or disparities.

Inclusivity, Equity & Engaging Stakeholders for Input

  • Assess the promotion criteria for inclusivity and equity, looking out for gendered language, ambiguous terms like "executive presence," complex jargon,  and cultural biases.

  • Organize focus groups or conduct equity audits to gather diverse employee feedback.
